The 8GB RX580 is a very good deal at that price, go for it without regret.

IF you need a more definitive answer, please provide the following:
  1. PC component list
  2. Top 3 things he will do with the PC
  3. Your budget
  4. How long can you wait
Good luck.

For some reason everyone I spoke to said to stay away from a used RX580 because they were mainly used for mining. Although the RX580 apparently out performs the GTX 1060, seems like nVidia drivers are more stable then the AMD drivers.

Please don’t laugh at the components. I am building a PC for my 13 year old son who will be mostly be using it to play games.

MB- Asus P877-V deluxe with an i7-3770k CPU
RAM- DDR-3- 8GB (for now)
PS-Antec TruePower Quattro 850
GPU-2xSapphire Vapor-x HD5770 crossfire.

thanks

According to Techpowerup RX580 8GB beats GTX 1060 6GB by 3% ! All cards were used for mining in the Nvidia GTX 10 family from GTX 1050Ti to GTX 1080Ti and on AMD series 4 and 5 from RX 460 to RX 580 and Vega 56&64. Only the most recent generations have escaped the ordeal : RX5000 series and RTX and GTX 16 series.
