Grim Dawn- On Titan Quest Engine

You can fully play it without MT's, but obviously it takes a lot away from the game. I tried it, and played it quite a bit but ultimately I found there was TOO much choice in skill trees, and it was very punishing if you found out in 10/20 levels that you didnt want that skill after all.

It really rewards replays so you can fix you new alt, but then the choice of the 4000 skills is limited because you've just levelled two dual-wielders up...

I hope thats clear what I'm trying to get across. I liked D2 because you had choice, and maybe you screwed up, but rebuilding wasnt punishing. PoE is punishing imo.

I'm not sure how expensive it gets down the line, but there is an option to buy back skill points that in the early days isn't silly expensive.

That said.... the skill tree is only a small part of the equation. Variations in weapons' attributes (including both passive and active off-class skills), runes, and passive "devotion" skills make the available options damn near endless.

I can't stress this hard enough..... if a person was heavily addicted to DII and they've been disappointed in the state of ARPGs of late because what they really wanted was DII with better graphics then this is the game for them.

We're talking Crack for reformed DII addicts here. :)

If you are enjoying Grim Dawn you should check out Titan Quest and the Immortal Throne expansion as well. You will find the game similar to Grim Dawn but not as dark and gritty. Story line is okay, but the hack and slash is much the same.

I sounds like you are really enjoying this one, so that could be a back burner thing :) Just watch steam sales as I am sure I have seen it go on for sub $10 numerous times.

Just finished the main story line tonight (Veteran Lvl). I'd call 80+ hours of (IMO) really decent gameplay with plenty of replay options a damn fine value @ $35.

Refreshing to play a game written for PC. I've bought quite a few games over the last year or so, but the only one besides this that I've played more than 20 hours on has been DIII..... really don't like controls/UI that aren't specifically written for PC.

Good to heard. However, i'm still going to wait for it to hit steam sale before grabbing it. Call me once bitten, twice shy?

And I hear you on the console ports. I love Witcher 3, but I actually went out and bought a XBone controller for PC just to play it because the PC controls are that bad. Ugh. :blarg:

Which is why I'm pretty much done buying any game that isn't a PC exclusive. I don't own a console (the kids had several, but the last one I personally played on would have been the original nintendo) and quite frankly don't enjoy using a controller.

Witcher 3 is one of the games I paid big bucks for and regretted the second I had a chance to try out the controls. It's probably the one that most influenced my decision to stop buying games that aren't initially released as PC exclusive.

As far as the DLC goes.... if you've played the game but haven't seen the new DLC (the crucible) it's essentially a bottomless dungeon for loot/experience, but has the added benefit in that the spoils (treasure chests) include things like consumables which can be a bit of a pain to get during normal play.

While this is the Grim Dawn thread, it's interesting to note that today marks the release of an "Anniversary Edition" for Titan Quest - owners of the game on Steam receive this update for free. It seems in recent years THQ Nordic took over this project after Iron Lore collapsed - and subsequently became Crate Entertainment - makers of Grim Dawn.

Was there anything in the way of improvements to the original game or was it pretty much just all of the patches and DLC bundled together?

As far as Grim Dawn goes.... still rocking it and just finished my first Elite level run through.

130 hrs gameplay (steam shows 200+ but it's also including paused game time as opposed to actual game play) and lvl 75 (of 85 max). Not bad for $35 considering that's one character class and a single run through.
