does an HDMI audio extractor split the sound from the stream or does it duplicate?

I need something that will let me split a duplicate of the audio so it can be fed to the transmitter base of a set of Senn RS120 TV headphones and still let the TV speakers play the audio streaming to it from a media PC.

I am not sure if I understand, i would think that a splitter would split what ever is on it evenly and exactly the same

They're called "extractors" as opposed to splitters. They're designed to "strip" the audio out of the signal so that it can be output to a stereo source.

I believe they leave the HDMI audio intact, but I've never used one so I could be wrong.
