Hmm, is this actually a good price? I have an Alienware 13 R3 that I presume would work with this, though I'm not sure if I really need such a thing. I guess I could replace my desktop with my laptop then?

I suspect the laptop fan would still be rather loud but I guess it would only be the CPU fan instead of both fans running?

It's normally 280$+, so it's almost a third off. For Dell, it's a pretty good deal. Yes it's proprietary for certain Alienwares, but it also costs half as much as other eGPU enclosures and is faster. Worth it, IMO. If you don't have the newest generation then this amp with a 10xx will be a good deal faster as much quieter than normal. Obviously it's meant for desktop use, but it's still far smaller than a tower, so I'd still consider it portable.

Canada computers has the EVGA G3 750w on for $120 with a $20 MIR. Even without the MIR I believe this is a historic price low.

I price matched it at ME for $115. I'm done with MIRs, and ME is a 12 min drive from my door.
