And on this note, MS released a microcode update today: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4497165/kb4497165-intel-microcode-updates

Another good way to check the Windows settings is to open up PowerShell as Admin and run:
Install-Module SpeculationControl
Get-SpeculationControlSettings
That is a awesome, if not scary, tool lol.

Microsoft has a document outlining what it all means as well https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4074629/understanding-the-output-of-get-speculationcontrolsettings-powershell

I wouldn't consider it scary, just tells you what you're missing and (hopefully) what you can do to fix it. I guess they must have changed some registry values again though since I have 1 false. But I recall a lot of things were false, especially the hardware support aspects, prior to me modifying my BIOS on my X99/6580k.

Code:
Speculation control settings for CVE-2017-5715 [branch target injection]

Hardware support for branch target injection mitigation is present: True
Windows OS support for branch target injection mitigation is present: True
Windows OS support for branch target injection mitigation is enabled: True

Speculation control settings for CVE-2017-5754 [rogue data cache load]

Hardware requires kernel VA shadowing: True
Windows OS support for kernel VA shadow is present: True
Windows OS support for kernel VA shadow is enabled: True
Windows OS support for PCID performance optimization is enabled: True [not required for security]

Speculation control settings for CVE-2018-3639 [speculative store bypass]

Hardware is vulnerable to speculative store bypass: True
Hardware support for speculative store bypass disable is present: True
Windows OS support for speculative store bypass disable is present: True
Windows OS support for speculative store bypass disable is enabled system-wide: False

Speculation control settings for CVE-2018-3620 [L1 terminal fault]

Hardware is vulnerable to L1 terminal fault: True
Windows OS support for L1 terminal fault mitigation is present: True
Windows OS support for L1 terminal fault mitigation is enabled: True

Speculation control settings for MDS [microarchitectural data sampling]

Windows OS support for MDS mitigation is present: True

I did that on a HP Prodesk 600 G1 SFF because HP had one available but I am pretty sure that the cpus with HT are the most impacted and I rarely had i7s, most f the time I had i5s and AMD cpus.

I'm guessing this latest micro code update will also include the older, if they've never been run / installed?

also, how many of you have installed the micro code since it's been mentioned here? ;)

It's not that I'm worried or anything. I just don't feel like messing around with CPU voltages and OC's when everything is working smoothly. There's no guarantees I'll be able to run 1.22v @ 4.9Ghz (yes, it's stable) on my 8700k if I update.
