I suspect the majority of us old farts created an account for HL2, as that was steams first real 'hit' to draw people in.

Hmm, my profile doesn't say my years of service.
Though I set almost everything to hidden, so that may be why.
Edit: Oh, I've got a service badge though. 12 Years, which looks about right since my first purchase was 'Oblivion - Game of the Year Edition' in August of 2009.
Not as seasoned as you gents, but I was a poor starving student limited to console games until 2009.

Counter-Strike was probably the first for me, though I do have the HL2 GOTY edition (still have the case too). May 2005 here.

I think it just says that for games that were activated with a key bought elsewhere. IIRC the game key probably came with a video card.First steam game was free?
