There's a metal CPU backplate, but the great majority of the weight is from the heatsinks. Aside from the chipset/VRM heatsinks, the two primary NVMe heatsinks are really beefy as well.

edit: As far as what the board looks like.... the pixelated graphics turn a lot of folks off. It doesn't bother me, but I can see that being a valid complaint.
I like that board, it will be my next :)

I'm still waiting on a few more elbow fittings for the loop so it's cooling with a peerless assassin for now. Front looks fine, back not so much until I do some cable management (there's 6 more fan cables to go in there :) ).

Screen looks amazing! Going to take a bit of work to figure out how to properly configure the widget colours and backgrounds, and the available widgets are pretty sparse, but it's a "normal" monitor in flipped profile mode so you can drop any app window in there (that's just the amazon music app at the bottom).

As far as the case goes.... a couple of disappointments, the first one being the lack of an HDD activity led. The second is nature of the incorporated vertical gpu mount... it works great, but working around it to get at the lower connectors on a full ATX board is a bit of a pain. I would have much preferred to see it designed to be added to the case after the motherboard is installed and everything is wired up.

While I'm on the subjects of disapointments.... really not a fan of the current trend of including only 2 audio ports on the rear panel (front speaker + mic). It isn't limited to this particular model, the great majority of X870 boards seem to have that design. I thought I was OK after reading the manual and seeing that it allowed for physical 7.1 by using a combination of front and rear panels. I assumed I'd be able to map the rear mic port to my side/rear speakers, but the secondary functions of all the ports is fixed (the rear mic can only be changed to center/subwoofer) so I'm stuck using the front port for my rear speakers.

I’ve never had them but I’ve always liked the idea of those flattened ribbon cable for the power supply. They seemed like a great option for cable management.

Yeah, I'm definitely a fan. Won't see them inside the case though, I've got some custom colour extensions that should be arriving tomorrow.

Similar first install manufacturer's experience as I had with the B550 Tomahawk in that it presented me with a driver package for the motherboard first thing. Not sure if that's a new driver thing or if it's part of the 24H2 build features. On the down side, the ASUS one appears to be browser based, and it has an "install all" option which would include crapware (like norton) but there doesn't appear to be an option to de-select individual options so I'm stuck doing each driver install separately.

There's a setting for this in bios which you can switch off if you desire, otherwise it pushes the browser based driver app on boot.

Did a Ryzen Master run overnight, it spit out -30 across all cores. Entered into bios, and Cinebench benched @ 2149 vice aprox 2025 prior to being optimized. That said, the PA isn't completely up to the task of keeping the 9950X within reasonable temps, it's peaking over 85c.

The massive heatsink on the primary NVMe slot seems to be working well. 1 minute sustained file transfer within the SSD stayed well under 40c.

I have been trying to tell people since the PA came out that it isn't their best cooler. Its just a cheap cooler that works well.

But people continue to link to Steves video..

That's kinda the point though..... don't you pretty much have to double (or more) what you're paying in order to get a better performing premium cooler? In this case, I just wanted a temporary cooling solution while I waited on all of the parts for the loop to come in.

Phantom spirit is the 7 heatpipe version of the peerless assassin that is supposedly a bit better thermally…it’s what I use. It’s usually around the same price as the PA (PA is more talked about and reviewed, since it’s been around longer).
