Definitely, wasn't saying they're innocent, or that we didn't gripe about it (hence why I mentioned their gpus. HD###, R7 ###, R9 ###, RX ####XTXXXXXXXX) etc.

This intel switch just seemed particularly annoying to me. I think just a few years ago they published an official 'this is how our numbering is going to work from now on' guide and marketing decided.... nahhh.
Switching it up since the core 2 architecture is dead. They are moving to a chiplet design so starting over basically with core ultra as a whole new thing.

core 2 i3/5/i7-> core ultra = reset numbering back to 0xxx for first generation

14700k is technically the 15th gen not the 14th since 3 digits without a leading number existed first if you want to look at it that way.

Tbh, I never noticed a core ultra series 1 so I assumed they skipped right to 2xx.

Apparently I missed an entire gen release between the 14XXX and the ultra 2xx?

Core Ultra 0285K (285K), 1285K, 2285K etc i think is where they are going

on one of the slides in the videos showed there is still a KF for dropping the internal GPU as well.

And correction from above was thinking Core i5/i7 not core 2 duo era

I really think they needed to change it up since AMD is pretty much using the same kind of numbering scheme on their processors and soon the will have 10800x or 10800x3d. Or 10500x or whatever it is.

Intels cpu naming scheme for their processors on the pc side has actually been pretty consistent since the introduction of Nehalem though.

I think HWC conclusion is the most balanced. ALS is a great disappointment for gamers but despite it's thread handicap to 14th gen CPU, it does compete well in the majority of workstation tasks. the 285K's price and lack of gaming prowess is going to hurt it's sales I think...K CPU don't go into many PC's that aren't made for gaming. the slightly higher base and boost clocks don't warrant the higher price. so, even with AMD's Ryzen 9000 flubbed launch, they have a much better value proposition for the majority. annoyingly though, Intel has so much leverage that all the OEM's tend to glaze over AMD offerings...or, when they are there, have inexplicable handicaps that have no reason to be.

I haven't gone through all the reviews out there, but has anyone checked how they overclock?

Roles are reversed this gen. Usually AMD has the advantage in work related taks. Now all Intel has to do is come up with a KS scew that dominates the gaming arena and then the transition is complete.

Intel is working to address the performance issues. They are looking into both OS and BIOS level causes to the performance difference (not align with Intel expectations) from reviewers. Link to Videocardz article which refers to a Hot Hardware's interview with Intel's VP of Client AI & Technical Marketing.

Hmmm…not sure what to think. I would expect they can fix the stability issues, and some of the gaming inconsistencies with core scheduling, but I don’t expect more than that. We will see.

I honestly don’t see a big issue. The processors are monsters in work related tasks and decent at gaming. Sure the 9800xd is the monster at gaming, but when we are talking about hundreds of FPS from both cpus does that extra 25% really matter that much?

That being said I was looking at the 9800x3d myself but there seems to be a high end gpu shortage so I haven’t pulled the trigger on a new build.
