I keep hitting it unintentionally and when I to to type numbers off the keypad and it's been turned off, crazy, upsetting and very stressful things can occur and I am TIRED OF IT! Google gave me nothing hot keys, shortcuts for 60% keyboards or how to have it auto-enabled / disabled when your PC boots, but nothing on permanently locking it on or off. HALP!!!

only thing I can think of is the BIOS 'On at boot" option. If you have software for your keyboard there may be an option there?

I'm seeing people talk about things like numlocker (never used it myself)

My knee jerk reaction would be to pop the key cap off though and put it aside.

thanks, I'll take a look!

some of my typing issues come from neurological deficits...I can still type upwards of 100wpm and that's with all the backspacing I usually have to do, LoL!

I just had a silly thought... A lot of modern mechanical keyboards have "floating" keys. There is probably an industry name for them but it would be possible to just shove something under they key to prevent it from physically being pressed... turns out enough people thought the same thing and there is a commercially available product that does exactly that.

If you know someone nearby with a 3d printer a clip like this would be pennies worth of plastic there is even a model for them on thingaverse.

If you don't know anyone locally i could print off a few and throw them in an envelope for whatever the cost of postage is.

Presumably this is a keyboard that doesn't come with some form of key mapping software?

If it does, the obvious option would be to enable it "on" in bios, and then either unmap the numlock key all together, or move it to a secondary layout (like FN+numlock).

hey ssw, it's the keyboard on the G15. :D

@Izerous the reviews on the few numkey lockers are abysmal, so I decided against trying that one and a few others. I'll use my Google-fu and see if there is any other option. ;)

Maybe try the powertools remapping option?

It looks like it's only got the option to replace the mapping as opposed to calling it a "null", but easy enough to check it out just in case.

Aside from that, I'd look into generic remapping software to see if any of them appear to work.

edit: Nope, I just checked and I was wrong.... there does appear to be a "disable" option when you select the numlock key.

So..... powertools, keyboard manager should do the trick for you. :)

I didn't try it myself (my keyboards don't have num keys :) ) but there is a "disable" option which I'm assuming unmaps the key so that it doesn't do anything. If on the other hand, disable means that it turns off the num lock you could map it to something like a shift key which more than likely won't register when you accidentally hit it.

I laughed when I saw the install wizard GUI was Windows 3.1 style, LOL!!!
