I've been out of the hardware scene for a couple of years now and is looking to build a new gaming PC this year. I don't do folding/video editing. Gaming only at 1920x1080.

Memory express has this combo deal right now: Intel Core

and it comes with a 2500k and this Gigabyte GA-Z68A-D3H-B3 mobo: Gigabyte GA-Z68A-D3H-B3 w/ DDR3 2133, 7.1 Audio, Gigabit Lan, CrossFireX / SLI at Memory Express

I'm wondering if it's a decent deal that I should jump on. I only use single GPU and don't really care to overclock much.

I would also like some advice on which RAM to purchase. Would any 2x4Gb DDR3 1600 be fine, or should I get higher clock speeds?

Edit: This mobo is now no go for me as I need eSata

ASUS P8Z68-V or V pro, another darn good one is asus sabertooth.

The board you first linked is $121, the cpu around $215 here in canada=$336

So yes that is a decent deal.

I also want to chip in on the memory

Gskill has a few kits available that are all very awesome for overclocking and very good price, all 5 of these are available in 8gb+ kits.
If you look at the model numbers
Newegg.com - Computer Hardware, Memory, Desktop Memory, 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM, 8GB (2 x 4GB), DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800), Gskill 8gb not saying to but from here if you do not want, was just showing what I mean for the model numbers :)
you will see they end in a 4 letter combo

I would definately go with the 1600 class speed, its not much more, and tends to allow a better overclock/multipliers, not to mention it does have a pretty direct performance boost vs the 1333 in MOST things. Thing here is, the 1333 and 1600 class is so close in price, I would just go for 1600 :)

Anyways, the ram I would recomend you can see on the above list.
Gskill Ripjaw GBRL is the model 9,9,9,24 2T 1.5v 1600 speed 2x4gb
Gskill Ripjaw X GBXL is the model 9,9,9,24 1T 1.5v 1600 speed 2x4gb(I use these, very overclock freindly, can do almost 2k speeds)
Gskill Ripjaw X GBXM is the model 9,9,9,24 1T 1.35v 1600 speed 2x4gb(blue heatspreader, same overclock capabilities as the GBXL model, but use lower voltage)
Gskill Sniper SE GBSR is the model 9,9,9,24 1T 1.5v 1600 speed 2x4gb(these seem to have the higher average overclock of these models)
Gskill Sniper Low Voltage GBSR2 9,9,9,24 1T 1.25v 1600 speed 2x4gb(ulta low voltage, may not hit as high of an overclock memory side, but this is a good thing for Sandy bridge chips, they dont like to feed more then 1.65v to memory anyways)

All the above Gskill models support XMP, which is litterally a flip of a switch, and it will do all the settings for you, you want to make sure to use the correct XMP profile though, I believe it is the 1600 speed 1.25VTT 1.5dram(or whatever the kit is) and the timings as they should be for the kit, course, you could just set the timings yourself, and at least you are in control of the voltage, clocks and such :)
