Should I maybe order one of those Kits from Amazon that has several different switch types to help me pick one? I don't think I've seen one with electro- optical switches though.

Oh, since I forgot to mention it: the KB has to be TKL (ten key less) at a minimum, but I don't want to lose my F -keys, so that's why I'm aiming for like a 60-80% size KB. My muscle pain disease causes my KB and Mouse hands to want to close distance all the time. So with a full sized KB my mouse+ right hand would bash into the numpad. So ya, no numpad for me

It was recommended to me that those switch kits really don't help much. It's very difficult to discern the difference between switch types based on a single switch. You really need to compare a full row, or half and half between one side and the other.

As far as TKL goes.... you'll need to stick to minimum 75% if you want F keys. Anything below that is more than likely going to be 5 rows max.

Switch choice is really difficult to come up with unless you have access to test keyboards. Basic types are Linear (red / yellow / black), tactile which has a slight bump at the point it activates (brown), or clicky which has an audible noise at the activation point. Once you decide on that, the next step is spring weight.... I find reds way too light and prefer yellows/blacks, but that really comes down to personal preference (SugarJ prefers a much lighter switch than I do).

Those colours are based on standard cherry switches but many other manufacturers use a different colour scheme so you have to work off of style (linear/tactile/clicky) and activation weight/stem travel distance.

From an ease of choice perspective, I'd probably recommend keychron as well. They have models across the spectrum which should fit any need.

What I have now (my DeCK 82) is, I think, completely linear with what I'd call a "medium" force. But for pain and sanity (and someday, streaming) reasons, I'll define my preferences as: Linear, very light, and, if possible, short travel distance. Every second I'm putting force on my fingers can increase pain, if that helps everyone understand. So low spring force and linear working against me are definitely required. For the travel distance, however, I can possibly risk standard stuff because I still have 4 packs of O rings: two different thicknesses and two different densities/softnesses. So if everything feels good but the travel is just a bit far, I can add O-rings aplenty to shorten the travel.

Edit: oops! Forgot that noise could be an issue as well, especially for streaming. Maybe I've backed myself into a corner here... are MX red "Silents" my only option now that will cover all the bases?

Logitech makes this type of low profile one. Not sure if they make smaller form factors with the same profile, but this one popped to mind so I submit for your knowledge:

Everest has a silent option, that's what I'm using. I was using a failing keyboard and didn't wanna buy another Logitech I was gonna hate. Of the 30 or 40 keyboards I've been through, this one Trump's all of them. Period.

The thing is, as a plumber, I wear keycaps out faster than the average person because my hands are like sand paper. I play mostly FPS games. The keycaps Everest use are still in fantastic condition. Only one key is starting to show wear after hundreds of hours of gaming.

With the way you're describing what you want in a switch, I keep thinking that some form of low profile scissors switch board would be the best fit, but I'm not sure you'll find one in a TKL format.

So because I'm a bit weary of the smaller brands, and because I'd like to have the KB software share the ecosystem of something I already have installed, I'm currently looking at these:

1) Razer Huntsman V2 TKL (Linear optical V2 switches with sound dampening)
2) Razer Huntsman V3 ("Analog"(?) Optical switches with actuation adjustments, no mention of silence)
3) Razer Deathstalker V2 TKL Wireless ("Low profile" linear switches. Not a fan of wireless. No mention of silence.)
4) Razer Blackwidow V4 (with extra Razer "yellow" switch pack - which I'm told are pretty quiet)
5) Corsair K70 TKL Champion (Cherry MX red silent switches)
6) Corsair K65 Plus Wireless (Specifically mentions "dual layer sound dampening". Not a fan of wireless though)

I also tried the Asus ROG Azoth TKL keyboard which has "gasket mount", 3 layer dampening and lubricated ROG NX switches... which felt awesome to me, but I'm not an Asus fan and don't really want to deal with their SW, so an equivalent would be...? I don't know

I went through 2xK95s and in around 2 years or so there was 24+ dead LEDs between the two of them.
