Interesting... wonder if that will fix the oddities I have sometimes with the Thunderbolt 3 Dock and my X1 Yoga (3rd gen)...

Most likely not. I think the dock is the issue :(

This seems to be an issue with the firmware (provided by Intel) causing excessive writes to the flash memory in the TB3 controller and essentially killing it.

Fix Thunderbolt SPI ROM Wear out issue.

from more I've read, the X1 Carbon's don't seem to be suffering from the issue. different driver source or some such.
Well Lenovo says differently.

  • X1 Carbon 5th Gen - (Type 20HR, 20HQ)
  • X1 Carbon 6th Gen - (Type 20KH, 20KG)
  • X1 Carbon 7th Gen - (Type 20QD, 20QE)
  • X1 Carbon 7th Gen - (Type 20R1, 20R2)
