I was under the impression that it no longer made sense to use GPUs since ASICs do such a significantly better job.

ASIC's have only started running in the last few weeks, they will make it obsolete to gpu mine, eventualy. There will come a point where asic's are such a large portion of the overall network that the difficulty will be so high that even my 7GH/s will be making 0.0000x which wont make sense unless btc climbs to stupid(er) levels.

3weeks ago I was planning to stop running by now, was even turning the rigs off while I was at home to save on noise levels. BTC price is up over 10x since then and difficulty only maybe 2x, so it has got more profitable in the short term. When the price levels out (or falls) there will be a point where the difficulty is so high that the reward per day/week/month isn't worth enough.

I've tried setting up LTC recently and found it extremely confusing. I'm gonna see if what I set up today actually ends up doing anything overnight or not.

So is anybody mining LTC or just BTC?

I'm playing with LTC right now. I am going to get a decent amount, probably around 100, and then just sit on them. See if they get up to $25 or so. Of course with my luck, btc crashes, everyone switches to ltc, and they are worth $75 the next day.

Anything specific you are having trouble with?

Yes it sounds like a plan to hold LTC and wait for the possible rise, 0.25 of BTC would be great. My mining calculator indicates that I should get around 2 LTC per day using my 7970 over 24 hrs, thats not going to happen as I use it as my main rig in the evenings, but all other times should be mining away. Got it up to 620 k/hs now.

Ouch never did this thought about it quite a few times but wasnt sure if I would make enough back to warrant the increase in hydro and abuse on my computer components lol!

I've finally started dabbling in LTC.

I have a single 660ti running at ~180kh/s. i'm assuming that you cant mine with SLI? I'll have to drop SLI and set up a second miner to make use of both correct?

For those mining with NVIDIA cards, try this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=167229.0

Running about 195-200kh/s on my GTX680, about 35 for my 3770k. The pool I was mining for screwed me over sadly, so now I'm sticking to a new P2Pool that automatically pays me even the tiniest Litecoin fractions once a block is found.

I just joined Hardware Canucks and saw your post. I have seen many references to Bitcoin mining but not to Litecoin mining. Where can I get more info about litecoin mining? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks
