Does anybody have experience with the adaptor in the title? Looking to inject new life into an Asus X79 board.

Is there a brand name? This could literally be every adapter on the market...

Not sure exactly which you are referring too. But I have a low profile one in use in a P67 board. Tiny x4 adapter that doesn't even have a slot adapter. Works great w/ a 2TB Adata SX8200 Pro.

Will this allow the nvme to be bootable? I was looking at one from MemX
That is motherboard dependant. Most X79 boards never had nvme supported added, as it came well after board launch. So check to see if there is a new bios w/ nvme support.

Otherwise yes.

Thanks. There is not an nvme socket on board so I may stick with a sata ssd.
My Asus Z9PE-D8 WS supported NVMe even tho it had no m.2 slot. It was a first generation LGA2011 board. But the bios never specifically stated NVMe support was added.

Either way you could always boot off a SATA SSD and use an NVMe drive for games, etc. NVMe drives themselves will work on any board. Just may not be bootable.
