Max $400 android phone recommendations

you just need to make sure the model you buy supports all the bands your carrier uses. I've a buddy with a OnePlus that is missing some and their reception and data are shyte a lot of the time.
Maybe your friend bought from a 3rd party seller?

I would think OnePlus only sells the models that work in Canada on their Canadian storefront. Any phone can be hit and miss with reception though, even if it has all the right bands, the antenna setup might still be bad.

Curious, what'd you end up going with?
He didn’t buy anything unfortunately. Samsung a53 had a nice screen/size for him, but wasn’t happy with the camera and it felt laggy. Pixel 6a felt much faster and the camera was better, but he decided the screen was too small. And so the hunt continues for a unicorn in the mid-range.

I wish they made a Pixel 6a XL... it is definitely on the small side.

Nord N20 5G is likely the closest you'll get in staying with a sort of mainstream brand and not going the direct Chinese phone route (Realme, Poco/Xiaomi, etc). You might be able to find it in a smaller phone shop if he needs to try it first.

Haven’t tried that yet. We will check it out.

have you looked at the Nokia phones?
Even harder to come by up here, and generally I don't think they review very well. Technically it's not even "Nokia" anymore, they sold the branding off to HMD Global (which is run by some former Nokia employees, but ultimately isn't Nokia).

the easy way is to make sure its a global/world wide phone they come with almost all bands to my understanding

that doesn't guarantee you'll get the bands you need for Canada. I mentioned them earlier in this thread I believe, but a buddy bought a US focused Chinese phone and it's missing several bands used in Canada and as a result has a shit phone. he's in POS / Barcoding and just got Honeywell to send him a $4000 CAD CT47 to use...he's excited ;)
