Memory Issue.

Memory won't run 1866MHZ in an Ivybridge-E system and it's driving me :censored: nuts.

I've got a Asus P9X79 MoBo running Bios version 4701 with a i7 4820k processor. RAM is a 4x4GB GSkill kit, F3-14900CL8Q-16GBZM.

everything works fine at 1600MHZ, but when I set to 1866MHZ 1 or 2 dimms drop out even at 11-11-11 timings. The SPD tool in BIOS shows abnormal on one of the Dimms. Had this problem on 2 different memory kits.

Ive tried 2 different 4820K CPUs and the problem remains. The first would drop 1 or 2 DIMMS the 2nd i've only seen drop 1 DIMM but haven't spent much time on it.

When I use a 3820 everything is fine.

Anyone have some bright ideas?

Yup, sounds like the memory controller on the CPU. Try downclocking and loosening timings on the memory. If that fails, add more voltage.

i have similar issues with my 4820k. I had corsair 1600 ram originally and it ran better than this gskill 2100 stuff. If I try and set stuff manually it shits on my head. If I run xmp it runs better.
