How old is the install of XP?
#1 reason I format often is xp's registry gets bloated after awhile.
You could be having a driver problem at bootup, have you logged when you bootup?
I used to use bootvis to check what was booting.

It's Dell. Reformat that clean. It's probably full of Dell bloatware.

Could try running CCleaner along with it's registry cleanup too. It's free.

If you want to speed up your computer, use this. It worked for me.

You dont necessarily have to reinstall XP periodically.

Also try AdAware and AVG Antivirus 7.5.
Paired with a router with a well trained firewall (like mine) and you got yourself a fortress. So far I have been threat free for over 6 months on the same install of XP.

Good luck. :thumb:

There is a bit of a trick, well actually a setting. open "My Computer", click "Tool" -> "Folder Options" -click the "View" pane. Now, at the top it says "automatically search for network folders and printers" -> Uncheck this.

It does help shave about a second or two off the "My Computer" load time.

let me know if it helps.

when you look in task manager how many programs are running? myself I very rarely have more then 21 programs running at one time unless I am gaming online thats when I cut it back to 15-16 things running. you most likely have allot of crap running in the background
