Only they would have to to single slot water cooled solutions. ....dear god 4X 4870X2's:shok:......that would be so ridiculous what that's $2000 in video cards...and throw on a extreme i7 another $1000 to handle that much GPU bandwidth (maybe) and wow...just wow.

You guessed wrong. Intel's X58 Somethingsomething (named after some town in Pennsylvania; Bonetrail successor) is CDN$350, Core i7 920 is CDN$390.

I knew that. Tack on built in watercooling, Zonar x-fi audio and scsi and you get 400+

Oh yeah with ASUS wanting 450+ for there current extreme offerings this Foxxconn board will easily cost $400-$500....damn them tempting us with there bad sexy candy..I hate how enthusiast boards have gone from $250-$300 to $400-$500. and in reality you can get a decent board for $150 and add your own WC and fancy sound card and done save a few hundred bucks...however the high end offerings give certain elements that justifies the price and make it tempting but damn come on this is getting crazy when the Mobo costs the same as a high end GPU or decent CPU....I guess that is there thinking..

It has always been the way that enthusiasts will pay premium for the early cream of the crop stuff. Remember that the $150 boards were $269 6 months ago.

It's that nagging doubt in the back of your mind, where you wonder if a couple extra power phases, or an extra degree of cooling, or slightly-better binned memory would let you clock your system just a little bit higher... it's only money, right?

I'd definitely agree that the high end boards are getting more and more expensive although they are adding more PCIE lanes now.

If you can afford quadruple cards then I guess another 100-150 for the board isn't going to matter, plus as MPG says the enthusiast will spend to get that extra little bit of performance.

That said lets hope there is more competition for Intel otherwsie its going to be back to millenium pricing for your platform (MB + CPU).
