Not sure if this will help or not, but i recently moved from a synology ds1515+ that died out of warranty to a truenas scale deployment and couldn't be happier. I have 2 drives of redundancy on the data vDEV with one hot spare, along with a mirror pair for the LOG vDEV and a single 500GB for the CACHE vDEV, for around the same price as a replacement synology.
This is what i ended up configuring for storage.
2nd Hand Dell Poweredge T320 tower server w/ iDrac and a PERC310 in IT Mode.
5x 2TB WD Red in a Raid Z2 data vDEV
2x 500GB Samsung 870 SSD in a mirror for the LOG vDEV
1x 500GB Samsung 870 SSD for the CACHE vDEV
3x 120GB Kingston for the Boot Pool (Mirror with hotspare).
I then enabled daily snapshots (so i can use "restore previous versions") for a short term backup option (i'm aware that snapshots are not backups

) and also perform a daily encrypted offsite backup to a backup cloud provider.
