For those that haven't seen them yet Pande Group member Yslin has delivered two projects to the Folding public that use -advanced methods on their GPU3 rigs and it's not good news for those using the lower end Fermi cards.

Hi,

There will be two new GPU3/Fermi projects 6800 and 6811 on adv soon:
  • P6800 is our second-stage sampling of the amyloid beta peptide.
P6811 presents our first attempt to sample the configurations of a prion protein.
Please note that P6811 has the largest number of atoms ever (2150 atoms) for a GPU3/Fermi project. Donors with low/medium-end GPUs may notice a significant difference in PPD since low/medium-end GPUs may not perform well relative to high-end GPUs as system size increases.

Points and deadlines:
  • P6800 -- 1298 points, preferred deadline 4 days, final deadline 10 days
    P6811 -- 7202 points, preferred deadline 13 days, final deadline 18 days
Thanks!

yslin

Things are not looking good for those that just invested in new GTS450's and from what I've seen even GTX460 ppd on p6800 (1298point) is only marginelly better than the :censored: 611 pointers, I haven't seen a p6811 (7202point) WU yet and I don't think I want to.

Initial reaction around our Folding forum is....not good...

I just got a 6811 (7202 points/credit listed in HFM). At 1% now, and in a box with another GPU folding. Folding on a stock 460 1GB.

I'll report when I get to 3-5%.

And my ppd was just starting to ramp up too. :blarg: My points upload is only ~3.7K for the last two hours, so either one of my rigs just died or I just got a whole load of these things.

well, bad and good news. gives you an idea towards future production with relatively large wu's and different gpu's that run them...so cost/ppd can and will be quite different from the smaller buggers that care about shader speed and that alone :)

One of my GTS 450 keeps saying that there's a problem with the core and goes to sleep for one day.

My GTX 460 got a 7202 pointer : TPF - 10:22 // PPD - ~10000 :blarg:

One of my 450's threw two of them fairly quickly so I suspect these might also be more critical of OC level. As much as I refuse to cherry pick WUs, I also see no reason why I shouldn't adjust my settings for best PPD so I've turned off the -advmethods switch on my 450s until such time as these WUs get switched over to regular non-beta WUs.

I had that problem for a bit but I'm not sure which of the changes I made actually fixed it, sometimes I'm too impatient...

It was one or all of the following;

Upgrading to the 6.40r1 client.
Removing the " -forcegpu nvidia_fermi" flag.
Removing SLI.
Setting the 2d clocks to be the same as the 3d in Afterburner.

One of the above also cured the downclocking issue I was having...

For me currently (both 460s, running at 720mhz core in the same rig):

Both of them Project 6811: 9924PPD, 10:27TPF (7202pts). ETA is about 16 hours before completion!!!

My GTX 470 (stock):
Project 6800: 9268PPD, 2:01TPF (1298pts)

Would love to see a 6811 on the 470 to see how it compares to the 460 on these buggers.

someone refresh my mind what having the cards in sli or unpaired does to folding #/stability/etc pretty please :)

Pretty sure you can't fold (dual cards anywise) while in SLI mode. Can't say for sure though, 'cause none of my motherboards support SLI.
