heay all wondering if this is a Modem issue (4+yrs old) or the Router its the Asus RT-BE96U every now and then i have to hard reset (pull the power of the modem &Router) because it seems it decides thats enough internet for the day and the camer's go offline, and a simple reboot wont work i have to unplug both modem and router and wait till its cycled to get back up and running.

is this a common issue with asus routers or is my old isp modem finally kicking the bucket?

only reason i ask is my old ROG Rapture Router started failing to a point lan ports became defective over time (4-8 worked) i have a noctua 120m 5v fan plugged into a usb bar cooling it since the last time this happend and its been awhile since its last episode. havent really changed anything settings wise that should make it give up and shart the bed hard to point everything needs to be unplugged.

I have similar experience with my Asus AC routers. It would just crap out for no reason and require a power cycle at best and hard reset at worst. Even my Netgear router would that too so I think there's some kind of lifespan to these consumer grade equipment that's on 24/7.

hmmm ill have to give this a shot then its so random with this issue but yeah ill try Merin, im planning on getting the bigger GT-BE98 Pro once i can get one shipped.

I'm running Merlin on both of my Asus AC routers but one particular seem to be having problem where I can't even get into the admin page. I'm close to figure out how to use a TP-Link Omada system.

after that dumpster fire of a TP-Link Wifi system i dont wanna bother with em never seen something require a AC to barely pass setup process, as for issue with hittin admin page i had that as well if i tried it'd load the page login/pass but then go to the failed page, i had to do the 192 bit hit enter then manually hit stop in browser so i could login.

For a $950 router... I'd be pretty pissed needing to reboot it, and even more pissed if it was "dying". I've never had a modem die either, so that's pretty strange.

Have you tried just unplugging the modem when this happens? I can't see why the router would be at fault, unless your running some sort of VPN or DNS service that's crapping out.

the next time this happens ill see if its the modem and just unplug it let it reconnect. when this happens i notice the nest cams go offline first then shield forgets its connected to the NAS (Synology) rebooting within the asus app dosent help hence the having to unplug the modem/router. think ill try isolate it and just unplug the modem and see if it reconnects after the few mins. but doing both seems to alleviate the issue for least a few months,

Is it ALL connections that fail? Wired and wireless? Does the network die? Or does LAN connectivity continue, and just WAN fail?

If you're going to buy a new router, I'd recommend looking at something more robust than a consumer device. I'm a Ubiquiti guy, so I'm quick to push their products. A Cloud Gateway device plus an AP or two would be a FAR cheaper solution than that ASUS and likely be a lot more reliable.

this is maybe 1-2 months old at this point. i was looking at there offerings but where i am i cannot run the poe cabling to the aps unless im willing to pay to patch them up when we eventually move outa there. i even offered to let em keep them id i wen that route but that was a hard no.

its all connections why i thought ok the router is telling the modem go pound sand.
