Google unveiled the Nexus 6 and the Nexus Player.

The Nexus Player is curious for me since it's a 8 GB "console" with no SD Card support and yet somehow expects people to buy it. Remove 2 GB off of that since that's how big Android is and you're left with 6 GB around... Unless they're trying to make everyone go to the "cloud" I don't see the appeal for this device.

Anyone have an idea what's the point of it?

Probably either as a home device or possibly as a google music service appliance around wife connections.

I agree has to be about streaming everything over googles music/video, Thats the one thing I hate about my Nexus7, no SD slot

I'm in the same boat with my nexus 7, but will go one step further since my usb plug is flakey to the point of no longer being able to transfer files. I'm OK to charge using the stand, but I have to use an app to set up transfer from my PC over wifi. :)

The way I see it, it's a beefed up Chromecast.

Copying Roku's product line effectively, have a "stick" and a "box".

8gb is a joke. It has a micro usb port though. This means with some fairy dust and rooting it should be possible to use USB OTG.
