NH-D14 vs. NH-U14S

Hi guys,

I currently have the NH-D14 on order but I've read several reviews/comments that indicate that the newer NH-U14S actually outperforms the D14 by a few degrees despite being only a single fan cooler (not to mention smaller).

What is the general consensus on here? Has the D14 been replaced by the U14S? What can enable a single cooler to beat a dual fan???

the first thing that I noticed is the fan speed

where both of these tested on the same machine with the exact same settings?
I wouldn't worry to much about a couple of degrees lower temperature unless it was like 10 or something like that lol

Yes it's the same sets of benchmarks that I'm looking at (i.e. I'm not looking at one site testing only D-14 and comparing their results to another site testing U14S).

NH-U14S single fan moves 115.5 m3/h
NH-D14 moves 110 + 92 m3/h

The NH-U14S has an extra mount for the F15 PWM fan for a push-pull configuration. Price will reach almost $100 but it should outperform the NH-D14. The idea is to show how Noctua have progressed in their design since their flagship single fan cooler can at least match the older flagship's dual fan cooler all while being smaller.

I'm thinking I might switch out my D14 with an U14S + additional A15 fan in dual fan config then. I want to be able to keep my 4770K at the lowest temperatures possible since I will be overclocking (aiming for 4.5GHz at 1.20V).

What do you guys think?

The main reason to get a U14S is to fit tall RAM. Otherwise the performance difference is not that much and without "de-lidding" your 4770k, you won't see any benefit by swapping between these two coolers.
What if I were to replace the fans on the D14 with NF-F12 + NF-A15? I'm still thinking that the dual heat sink of D14 will be more useful than the single on U14S.

That is not something I can tell you. In theory, adding higher airflow fans will always increase the performance, but it doesn't really tell us by how much due to other design factors that need to be considered.
Changed my mind. I'll be sticking with the D14 until mark II is released. I will, however replace the rear exhaust fan in my 600T white with an NF-F12.

That will give you lower temps but 4.5GHz @ 1.2 V is something a Hyper 212 can handle to reach 50 degrees. I mean it isn't much to worry about.
