Nick Yee, a PhD student at Stanford, finds ssome interesting truths in his research about players of MMORPGs (massively multiplayer online role playing games [like WOW]). Players spend about 21 hours per week playing online, and surprisingly women players spend more time per week then males. He also found that their digital online characters actually behaved differently depending on the gender of the player- for example, characters controlled my males tended to stand further apart and were less likely to face each other than in mixed gendered groups.

Very interesting. I suppose if you stop and really think about it, we sometimes can see where people would act in game as though they were in real life.
