No Man's Sky Next... and now Beyond

Picked this up yesterday, it's been on my wish list for a long time. I'm hooked. 3 hours plus last night.


For beginners: when you run out of pulse fuel shoot asteroids for tritium (and silver and gold). Took me a while to figure that out.

So no one else is having this sound issue I'm having eh? Hm. What the heck is up with that? I did try and do a fresh install from Steam but maybe it had some old files hanging around or something. I did try some mods on it too way back, so maybe they are in another directory that survived the reinstall. I dunno, but if no one else is getting the issue, clearly something on my system.

Fixed it! :biggrin: It was a mod I'm guessing because uninstalling and manually deleting every NMS related file and directory I could find and then doing a fresh install did the trick.

Now, in my defense I thought that uninstalling from Steam and doing a fresh install would have deleted everything, but it doesn't. There were several files and directories left over including game data and caches. So the clean install ended up not being one without deleting those.

Just happy I can give it a go now!

UPDATE: Couple more comments after playing some more without that sound stressing me out! The 3440x1440 support is improved I believe. I may have spoken too soon or it was being adversely impacted by an old mod perhaps. The UI still looks a little off to me but much better than the last time I played in the previous big patch. I also started a new game as well. The whole game feels much more polished than it did.

This makes me happy because I always wanted this game to be good!

Oh, and Dwayne, under Options -> Network & Voice there is an option to turn off "Network Play". I haven't researched it but maybe that makes it a single player game again.

Thanks for the info, I'll have a look. I imagine that would turn off uploads for naming and such too. I will investigate though. I am a crappy PvP player, never liked getting my ass handed to me all the time, so I avoid it when I can. :)

Just announced, the Beyond update, another big free update, is launching 14 Aug 2019.

Still on my PC and still impressed with how much they have done for free!
 
Finally decided to give NMS a try after a long time, since others already have mentioned that with new updates it seemed to be overhyped. Though I think it's getting better with new updates. Personally, I like it much better now.
So I'll be looking for Beyond reviews and ratings as well!
 
Downloading the update now. I had to restart my Steam program to kick start it, just leaving it running it wasn't picking up the update, for some reason. Let's see what is new and fun.
