Noctua NF-P12 Comment Thread

I've already seen a few reviews out there suggesting that the 1000rpm Ultra's were duds (the 2000 and 3000 rpm versions aren't bad though), but this really puts it in context. Heck, a single Noctua beat TWO Ultra's on the radiator.

The reason why the Ultra Kaze fans aren't bad operating at 2000 and 3000 RPM is because they are operating faster than most of their competition. If Noctua bumped the speed to 2000RPM it would have the potential for some SICK performance.

How big of a difference was there between the Noctua and the YL? I've got 1200rpm YL's on the my PC, and they're the noisiest component, so I'd be interested in something that could quiet things down a little more without sacrificing airflow.

I would say the difference between the YL and the Noctua in terms of noise output was pretty extreme. I have become used to my Yates and I only realized how loud they are after installing the Noctua. If the Noctuas are too loud for you, you can just use the LNA (resistor) that is supplied with it to bump RPMs down to 1000.

While this shows temperatures what I'd like to honestly see is a "Static Pressure" test and that would truly tell which one is better.

It had already been done so we decided not to do it. I would recommend that you go over to OC3D where Matt addressed theactual static pressure:

Overclock3D.Net :: Review :: Noctua NF-P12 Static Pressure Performance :: Introduction

That being said, I think the proof is in the temperatures as much as it is with the actual static pressure performance.

well, I think I know what the next 120mm fan(s) I'm gonna buy are! that was an awesome review SKYMTL. I'm flabbergasted that so much could actually be said about a fan! kudos :D

There really was alot to talk about. :thumb:

I decided quite a while ago that I wanted to make our reviews unique compared to the rest of the stuff out there....so here you see one of the results.

I've heard good things about these fans, but I must say, it's about time we have a straight answer about them! Tip of the hat to you good sir!

Great review, thanx!

I just bought five of these a week ago, & i already had a bunch of the
S12s :)

You said over on XS that you were thinking of expanding the fan coverage. May I suggest the S-Flex series? Those have an excellent reputation themselves, and come with an equivalent fan speed, making for a good comparison.

I am already making a list of other fans I want to test. The only issue is getting in touch with the companies...and to be 100% honest with you guys, Scythe has not been forthcoming.

^ I had the same question. Where can we find these for $14? The lowest I can find is $18 at directcanada.

Also, what is the optimum mix of fans for a Silverstone TJ09? Say I get one of these for the heatsink (TU120), which fan models do i use for the rear, hd cage, and the top two mounts (if needed)?

These WERE for sale at Direct Canada for $14. Since the review, they went up in price.
