Non-3D Glasses? Screenless pc?

These are what he uses when he is out and about. Coffee shop, doctors office, plane flight etc. He said in a moving vehicle there can be jitter issues sometimes. One thing he just mentioned though it field of view is a bit narrow. Sometimes like replicating a desktop the corners of the "screen" are not visible so he can't see something like the time on a windows desktop because the corners are just out of visible range.
So I'm circling back around to this idea again. My old laptop with a 13in screen is just too small for any kind of gaming.
I'm 100% sure to just build a PC and have it sit nearby, expressly for the purpose of gaming in the lazy style.
The Virtue glasses still seem to be what I'm leaning for, but I'm still interested if anyone else has tried something like this and how it went for them.

So a little late but borrowed his nreal air (company now called xreal) glasses last night. I'll return them tomorrow. I mainly just used them with the steamdeck because the usb port on my phone is on the way out and being finicky. (So much for usb-c super resiliance)
TLDR: If I bought them I'd return them.

Been playing the heros of hammerwatch II demo on the steam deck on and off. Was interesting but the skill bar on the bottom of the screen falls off into a fuzzy area. Everything right on the edges was a little fuzzy or sometimes depending on how the glasses were sitting cut off. New item drops were basically impossible to read (can read them on steamdeck lcd screen I don't have the oled variant).
It is also not really optimized for the steam deck so figured I'd try Hatred I think it is called, another Rouge like ish rpg. Magical items are blue text even harder to read wearing the glasses. Skill windows I struggled with too. Health also near the edge making it hard to keep track of.
So jumped into NFS heat (i think thats which one inhave on there right now) and that palyed a lot better but the mini map near the edge of the screen again becomes hard to keep track of. Didn't feel like even trying Forza Horizons 4 after that.
Watching media in english was a good user experience but shows with subtitles were not ideal.
He has custom prescription glasses mounted inside that I had to remove. Kind of a pain design if you were to share these with people. They way the fit I thought I was going to break them trying to remove them. Even brought up youtube video to make sure I was doing it right. I'm slightly near sighted but I don't wear glasses at my desk, to use my phone or on the steam deck. So while I could have improved the sharpness a little my visual complaints would have stood.
I'm not even going to try to use them for writing code I think it would be an exercise in futility.
What ever device you using also has to support USB-C display port (think it was dp-alt). The actual owner tried to use older equipment with hdmi -> usb c and that didn't work. Mainly because the steamdeck for example only has 1 usb-c port and these drain the battery faster so he was looking at ways to charge and use the glasses at the same time.
I feel like newer models with a larger FoV might fix some of the fuzzy edges and stuff but I'm not about to drop $600+ on the newest models. It would be nice to give it a comparative try though. If he or anyone else picks up a newer version I'll attempt to borrow them for an evening. Some of the newer ones also use slightly smaller screens and I think that might bring the edges into better focus. All speculation though since I have not tried them.
I would complain about the nose piece but BNIB it would have had more than just the one and i didn't want to bend the crap out of the one he has installed (was a bit tight) but that is realistically not fair feedback unless you were constantly sharing them.

Some positivity, if i had the right nose piece or bent it out of shape they are light enough that they are quite comfortable. I do think there is a lot of potential here, compared to wearing a quest 2 these are WAY MORE comfortable because of how light they are. Even a quest 3 with elite strap and battery pack (balances the weight out really nice), or the apple headset are far less comfortable in comparison.
The speakers right above the ears are actually quite good. Better than using the speakers from the steamdeck i think mainly due to position. They also have a sound only mode that doesn't turn on the screen so can use them almost like headphones of sorts. If you were wearing them regularily I could see this as a valid use case etc. Puts the quest 2 speakers to shame.
the fact that you can fit prescription lenses is nice even if the removal process is a little nerve racking the first time.

I really appreciate the info! However, I think most of the issues you encountered would've already been lessened by even the original Viture one, and the Viture PRO is even better than that, supposedly. Things like edge fuzziness are supposedly completely gone now with the pro version, which also improves upon the One in every category. Basically those xreal ones were "gen 1" and the viture pro is considered "gen 2".
Yes, 600 or so is expensive, but that's the cost of two plain monitors or one gamer/quality one. Considering how mobile and flexible it is, and the fact that it could replace several monitors while seeming to be large than all, I really don't mind the cost.
Edit: almost forgot, what's your glasses prescription (if that's okay to ask that is). I need to get mine updated, but I recall my main issue (and the reason I can't use 3D at all) is because my eyes are different prescriptions and don't even focus at the same rate. Thanks again!

I honestly don't know I only use them for driving and didn't get glasses until maybe 10 years ago. As a result I have paid less attention to the actual prescription than those who have needed them starting at a younger age.
Also id be more than happy to try a newer pair, they are so first gen the company changed their name... but based on this experience I'd be looking closer at the return policy before ordering them. Supposedly the blurry edge issue is WORSE with the Air 2 as there is a sweet spot in the display that is even harder to hit so maybe not from the Air line but the One / One Pros maybe.
