Apparently, as our intrepid HWC folks mention in the sidebar Twitter feed, this appears to be a PCIe standard thing. Not sure why either company has never enabled it before these generation, perhaps the gains were minimal for the effort, but now the boosts are more significant?

Probably because the "race" has never been so close before, these little things to get a few percentage points were ignored for the amount of R&D cost involved. I'm guessing it won't work on "all" systems either so NVIDIA may have to deal with some flak there of people saying "why doesn't my PC support it!"

Just like NVIDIA adding automatic overclocking to GeForce Experience now, likely to match Beast mode on the AMD side. It's always something they could have done, just chose not to as it wasn't a significant benefit to them.

Glad to see the market nice and competitive again though!
