No if the GTX480 is 30% faster than the 5870 then I supect the price to be close to the 5870 and not the 5970. The 5970 can be bought at $630 ish before taxes so my estmiate is the GTX480 is not going to be above $550 more like $500. Then ATI will drop their prices and nvidia will follow sometime after. That's my bet. If it is any higher than $550 it won't sell very well and nvidia knows this.

How long in advance company like Nvidia , announce the launch date , I guess they don't say we launch it tomorrow. we are now half way to March
Lately the GPU companies have only announced products either right before or at the same time they are actually launched in retail.

Any rumours on release date is just speculation at this point....they release when they release.. ;)
Thier are sure going to be a lot of happy campers when they finally do release, just hope the performance, power demand and heat expulsion solidify the wait! As for price, provided the latter points mentioned are all adequate, enthusiasts will have no problems (as in the past) paying premium dollar for these Cards.

release isn't the rumor... performance/price are!

I'm going to clarify the last few entries of this... the release date was already announce by Nvidia PR as 26 March 2010, which means available by Nvidia only distributers by the beginning of April. The "other" distributers will recieve the cards probably around mid-April so the main distributers can have their "head start" in sales... Quite frankly I have no loyalty to red or green so whoever ends up on top with the best price VALUE, I will buy from them... I did not get a GTX 2** series because of the Radeon HD 5*** series. Simply put... who cares which company you're a fanboy of... it's all about the best performance for the price right? All should just quite the b.s. and see if Nvidia puts out in the end. Oh and by the way, if Nvidia sells this card for $700 (GTX 480 price speculation due to unauthorized pre-order by SabrePC) https://www.sabrepc.com/p-174-xfx-geforce-gtx-480-2gb-gddr5-pci-express-x16-retail.aspx and if that's the pre-order price "which was forced to be pulled off the site" then imagine the fact that initial prices are ALWAYS higher then the end price. Just had to make those few points. Have a FAIL day
