Poor financial education, living pay check to pay check, FOMO, got to have it now type of thinking? Similar kind of thinking of people driving on 4 balded tires in the rain but have money to buy a PS5.A lots and lots of people seem to use these rent-to-own businesses... i don't understand why.
Agree with you that it has been done before and that the rental places do make a big premium...that is presented as part of the issue, but if you watch the video you will see there is more to it than that (name conventions/parts swapping/price increases/marketing for warranty and ownership/etc etc).To play on the other side of this (have not seen the video yet) but on the pricing side of things... lots of rent to own places already exist. Including computers, furniture and more. Often you end up paying 2-3 times what the thing was worth just to rent it. To me atleast on the surface doesn't seem any different than existing companies. However I also call those rent-to-own places scammers and scummy so even if they are just entering an existing market doesn't mean I have to like them for it either.
