NZXT Gaming PC Rental Scam

It is crazy how clear this is a giant scam to move out old stock they have sitting around, anyone with basic math skills and use of the web knows this is a horrible idea so their whole target market is the uninformed just like any scammer would do. Parents who can't afford to get their kids even an Xbox or PS but then one of the kids shows mom/dad look "for a 100 a month we can get a whole high-end PC", so of course mom/dad get what they think is a deal. Scumbag move NZXT kind of glad I don't buy your products

edit when its smarter to take out a mob loan than it is to rent from NZXT, WTF

I wish other media outlets would spend even half the effort GN does on pro-consumer reporting. It'd do a lot to slow the steady flood of 'corporate enshittification' and 'you'll own nothing' so many are pushing for.

Haven't bought an NZXT product since the H440 I think (or some other early case), but they're sure not going to be in any future builds.

To play on the other side of this (have not seen the video yet) but on the pricing side of things... lots of rent to own places already exist. Including computers, furniture and more. Often you end up paying 2-3 times what the thing was worth just to rent it. To me atleast on the surface doesn't seem any different than existing companies. However I also call those rent-to-own places scammers and scummy so even if they are just entering an existing market doesn't mean I have to like them for it either.

A lots and lots of people seem to use these rent-to-own businesses... i don't understand why.

Poor financial education, living pay check to pay check, FOMO, got to have it now type of thinking? Similar kind of thinking of people driving on 4 balded tires in the rain but have money to buy a PS5.

Agree with you that it has been done before and that the rental places do make a big premium...that is presented as part of the issue, but if you watch the video you will see there is more to it than that (name conventions/parts swapping/price increases/marketing for warranty and ownership/etc etc).

Let's not forget the Leased PCs from the late '90s early 2000s which used to "call home" and had a bios switch which rendered the PC unusable if you were behind in your payments. I forget the brand, but lease/rent PCs was their entire business model.

Unfortunately much like the Payday lenders they have a very clear target cliental and it is appalling that NZXT is joining that long list of companies that already operates in that market.

I'll definately be scratching NZXT off my list.
