NZXT Phantom 820 Review Comment Thread

The lighting is actually pretty nice! Some colors a lot more predominant than others, such as Blue, Red and Green are the most saturated and bright, while purple, white and whatever is left in between is somewhat muted and unattractive.

Lots of people are complaining about plastic being incorporated into most of the cases and that is OK! The 820 is actually quite heavy because of its plastic components. The front and top panels are hefty, and are SOLID! Using plastic allows for different exterior designs to be molded, which would be difficult and probably more costly to reproduce with metal.

Dimitry, can you test both yellow and Orange colors, if your time allows? I'd like to know if their "muted" or more well off. Since you're lucky to have one in your posession I figured I'd ask you since I don't get mine for a couple of weeks yet. :)

Can I necro this thread?

Did anyone buy this case? How is it aging? Did anything break on it? How scratch/damage resistant is it? How effective are the dust filters. Is the case still as quiet/effective at cooling as it was when new? Are there any glaring faults with it that you don't like?

I'm seriously thinking hard about this case, but $250 is a lot of money for an enclosure, and I want to make sure I get something that I don't regret afterwards. I love the look and the performance (both cooling and noise) of this case, but I'm also concerned with longterm longevity.

I know I'm the Community Rep for NZXT, so some may find what I say to be biased, but, I've owned over 20 other cases in the last 5 years from just about every company out there, so here goes:

Pros:
Awesome Watercooling support
Fan Controller
Build quality (the plastics are tough, the steel is tough, very solid and can be moved around easily as long as you have muscles)
Hue and Lots of stylistic LED placement

Cons:
Mesh instead of acrylic on the side panel (I modded mine so that there are acrylic windows on all 3 spots.)
Drive trays ARE flimsy, but they work well when you get a drive installed.
Front only supports 200mm fans. bleh!

If you're having trouble deciding, maybe the 630 would be more to your liking? I think the 2 SSD trays on the mobo tray almost alone makes it better than the 820. They have pros and cons to each. Just have to pick which suits your wants/needs.

Well, the 630 isn't as feature rich. And it's not a big enough upgrade over my current case (690II advanced) that I could justify spending $150 on it...

How was the window mod? Easy enough?

I need to save some money.
So I can get this case based on the lighting alone.

Still haven't had the time though all things considered.

I'm probably going to get this case next month. Does anyone know what model(s) the fans are? I wish to buy the other 200mm and the other three 140mm fans for it when I do.
