NZXT Switch 810 Case Review

NZXT used to be a conservative manufacturer of enclosures, cables and power supplies but somewhere in the last few years, that mentality took a serious turn into new territory. While plain jane products are still a staple of their lineup, there have been some wildly innovative and forward thinking designs introduced. Many believe NZXT began down this road with the genre bending Phantom; a unique chassis that turned every traditional aspect of case design upside down. This tradition now continues with the Switch 810.

From the outside, NZXT's Switch 810 looks like a run of the mill case with a great looking side window and a glossy, reflective piano black paint job. There are a few items here and there which hint that something different may lie below the surface but when taken at face value, the Switch seems like business as usual in the chassis market....that is until you pop the hood.

With the side panel off, it is possible to see all of the time, effort and engineering that went into this case. From a boatload of wiring grommets and an insane number of fan mounts to a black interior with plenty of space, it has everything that the competition likes boasting about. On the other hand, NZXT has added their own spin by incorporating a fan hub and wire tie downs so the Switch 810 remains free of cable clutter, collapsible hard drive cage handles for easy removal, rotatable 120mm/140mm fan adapters, louvers to provide increase airflow, a dedicated internal bay for a dual radiator and the list goes on and on.

With all of these features, the Switch 810's sub $175 price tag will likely come as a surprise. Unfortunately, there are some build quality SNAFUs and a few bewildering design decisions but that shouldn't detract you from considering it.
