Stretching it, would be any cheapo 250GB SSD and 2x4gb ddr3 if not already at 8gb.

So, 25$ + 12$ from aliexpress

I think it's running 4gb ram!
It is strange that just upgrading from win 8 to 10 would do this if it ran quiet before and wasn't too slow.
Does she close the lid on the laptop this would put it to sleep or if she only surfs the net does very basic things not doing this like Office you could just switch to Linux. but Win ten always has something running if you used something like Windows10Debloater which you need to ruin in Powershell i it has a few different scripts that you can run so that you can turn off everything the basic user doesn't use removes some things it cleans it up very decently I used it a few times you can find it on https://github.com
That github site... I need a guide just to download anything from it!
I think I'll try the debloat trick before spending any money on this thing. And I have an old 1080p monitor that should help with seeing web pages better.

Processor • Intel Ivy Bridge/Intel Sandy Bridge/AMD Comal/AMD Brazos 2.0

Bus architecture • DDR3 1600/1333 MHz (Ivy Bridge), 1333 MHz (Sandy Bridge)
DDR3 1600 (AMD Comal), 1333/1066 MHz (AMD Brazos 2.0)

Hard disk drive • 2.5" , 9.5 mm / 7.0 mm Height SATA 320 G /500 GB / 750
GB / 1 TB (5400 rpm)
• 2.5" , 9.5 mm / 7.0 mm Height SATA 320 G /500 GB (7200
rpm)

Standard memory • DDR3 up to 1600 (× 2)
Can you run CPU-Z and give a validation report. It will nicely break down what is actually in the thing, if 2x2GB, 1x4GB, exactly what processor etc, if it has a CPU that supports 1600 MHz ram or just 1066/1333.

or
would be great starting points to replace the HDD's for value orientated SSD's.

https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX00125024 for memory if it supports 1600

Realized I still have an old M.2 drive sitting at home but I need an adaptor to install it to a laptop. I see on amazon there are enclosures for this but they all say "not compatible with M key drives". My drive is M key, it's the XPG SX8200 Pro. Is there such an adaptor I can use to make use of this ssd in this old laptop?

This for example says does not support M but the picture shows it having the correct slot

From the top of my head they don't support certain keying because of SATA vs PCIe. 1 Key formatting was for PCIe M.2 drives the other was for SATA M.2 drives and not exactly cross compatible. I beleive the physical connector can be identical for both but the wiring is not.

I'm learning that too, after I posted I kept digging and watching youtube and if I piece together all that info the XPG drive i have is pci and therefore isn't compatible with most drive enclosures for laptops.

It really confuses me when I don't do this stuff for years then have to re-learn it like it's my first time whenever I want to do something.

Space isn't the issue, it just seeing the cheapest way to put an SSD in this laptop, but mom does'nt seem to mind the few seconds it takes to open a browser.
