Given the imminent upgrade of my main rig, I'm planning on repurposing my old parts to build a basic gaming rig for my nine year old daughter. She's currently gaming on an old HP Elitebook with a 3rd gen core i5 processor (mobile) and some low tier Radeon graphics chip. She mostly plays Roblox, and has recently started playing Sims 4. While her laptop is capable of running Sims4, I can tell that it's working very, very hard, and is barely keeping up. I feel like an i7 3770K, even running on IGP, will be a bit of an upgrade for her, and should run much cooler and quieter than the current laptop that sounds like a turbine and gets very, very hot.
We will start out using the 3770K's IGP at first, but the plan is to eventually find a low end, efficient video card to throw in there. Something like a GTX960 or GTX1650, or an RX570, something of that ilk. I've got a collection of SSD's in my current rig that will be rendered obsolete by the 1TB NVME drive that I'm getting, so I'll be able to re-use at least one of them in this rig, if not all of them.
I think the idea will be to gift her the parts for XMAS, and then together we can build her PC - I can introduce her to the basics of assembling all the components, installing windows, etc. I need to do this on an extreme budget, however, spending as little money as possible.
The parts list will look as such:
Parts I already own:
Intel Core i7 3770K (running at stock clocks)
MSI Z77A-G45
Corsair Vengeance 1600Mhz 2x8GB
WD Blue 500GB SATA SSD boot drive
Zalman FX70 fanless passive CPU cooler (I used this on the 3770K for a couple of years, and it works great - 80W limit, perfect for the 77W TDP of a stock clocked 3770K)
Parts I need to buy:
Case - Fractal Design Focus G ATX Case - $54.99 at Memory Express - https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX70610
Power Supply - EVGA 450 BR - on sale for $29.99 at Amazon - https://www.amazon.ca/EVGA-100-BR-0...Corsair|EVGA&rnid=7590290011&s=pc&sr=1-1&th=1
Question, will the 450W Powersupply be enough to power a stock clocked i7 3770K, one SSD, and eventually a small, lower power graphics card? My thinking is YES, but I want to make sure before ordering it.
ALSO, she (or I, probably I, on my new rig) will need a new Windows 10 Pro key. Where is the best place to buy one of those?
