Hey guys, so im wondering if anyone has any info regarding the performance of pascal cuda cores vs maxwell cuda cores.

I use Iray rendering software which uses your gpu,s cuda cores to process your render.

Very basically more cuda core equates to faster renders.

But from what I can dig up on this, cuda cores from one generation to next are not comparable.

Thay being said, I have an GTX 970 SC GAMING ACX 2.0

Base Clock: 1165 MHZ
Boost Clock: 1317 MHz
Memory Clock: 7010 MHz Effective
CUDA Cores: 1664
Bus Type: PCI-E 3.0
Memory Detail: 4096MB GDDR5
Memory Bit Width: 256 Bit
Memory Speed: 0.28ns
Memory Bandwidth: 224.3 GB/s

Im looking at buying a GeForce® GTX 1060 WINDFORCE OC 6G because its got more ram which directly effects how large of a scene you can render (your entire scene needs to fit in the ram)

Core Clock Boost: 1797MHz/ Base: 1582MHz in OC Mode
Boost: 1771MHz/ Base: 1556MHz in Gaming Mode
CUDA® Cores 1280
Process Technology 16 nm
Memory Clock 8008 MHz
Memory Size 6 GB
Memory Type GDDR5
Memory Bus 192 bit
Card Bus PCI-E 3.0 x 16

So the obvious, 1060 has faster better base clock which I can reach by Oc'ing the 970.
The 1060 has more faster ram but slower bus speed
And finally, cuda cores .. 1060 has 384 less cores BUT are its 1280 cores faster, if so by how much..

For rendering purposes do you think im better off keeping my 970 or sell it for 300$ and pay another 150ish for a 1060?

Or invest a bit more... 1070... 1080..... or be patient for 2070gtx....

Gtx cards are much faster than the quadros for my workflow (small scale modeling).
Quadro is good for viewport performance and complex wireframe display.
They are more suitable for engineering or architectural work. Plus the gtx cards double for gaming as the quadros suck for gaming.

Good point on the auto desk forums, ill post over there too.
