PCIe 4.0 and potentially ditching power cables

It would be exciting for PCIe 4.0 but it will probably be 2-3 years out.

Have a look at the pics of the AMD Naples board. It has 4xPCIe8 and 2xPCIe6 power connectors. While AMD has not said word one about PCIe 4.0 for Zen, it's a reasonable bet that they (and Intel) are already working to implement the spec.

PCI-E 4.0 its a waste of certification @ 300watts

current GPU's are around 280-290watts now

should make it 500watts and video card takes the bigger buss from PSU.

hmm ok if this happens then when you upgrade your Motherboard you will more then likely have to buy a NEw PSU because of the new plugin on the motherboard .

Here we are in 2021 and my 6900 xt is running on x570 platform via pci-e 4.0 with 3 pci-e cables. Not only does it require three but they have to be run from three separate psu ports and can no longer be pigtailed. The future is upon us lool

my 3090 FE with a HWC colored cable takes 1 12-8 pin and it looks glorious though im surprised nvidia didnt go this route be default its like hey take this double dong cable just outa spite lol.
