no photos, but I wanted to comment on how much I love the song of the Golden-crowned Sparrow. it's so sweet and syrupy!

very few birds have bright colors in temperate zones, so the slash of yellow on its head is super cool too. I'll get some pics and share them in the next few days. :D

Immature Cooper's Hawk - guessing female because it's the largest one I've seen. Was here all morning watching everything but didn't hunt. Several squirrels on other trees just stayed very still and behind the trunk, out of view most of the time. Several other birds were around. One blue jay perched on the same limb and a Downey Woodpecker was fairly close. It left and came back later in the afternoon. Same behaviour - watching intently, including looking straight up sometimes, changed trees and branches looking down on the ground but never hunted. ? No idea. It wasn't bothered by my presence. But with all the tree branches, hard to get decent photos at times.

On a western larch looking up - I couldn't see what it was watching.

the funny thing about birds the looks from there sides of their heads mostly and not straight forward, maybe it was watching you thinking I wonder if he thinks I am looking at something above me lol

Big Fat Edit

Ok I have to correct myself I looked it up and apparently they have 280 ° view unlike us Humans 200°,so they definitely can see in front of them so that laughs on me

it happened too fast to get any pictures taken, but we had a raven land on the front step rail where we have a couple bird feeders. it dropped a rat into it and then an eagle swooped and landed in our front lawn. wife ran to get her phone but the eagle few away, chased by some other ravens...or crows, they looked a little small. the rat was gone, so not sure if it was still alive and was in shock when we saw it or if it was dead and nabbed by one of the other birds when they all took off.

very interesting / neat encounter to watch!

Saw one here too in Toronto/East York, though it was more interested in the cherry blossoms (?) rather than our oranges & jelly.

There was a rose-breasted grosbeak, woodpecker, gold finch, house (red) finch and some different sparrows today too.
I've had White Throated Sparrows & White Crowned sparrows (along with grosbeaks, goldfinches, woodpeckers. The migrants seem to be staying around longer than usual. (black oil sunflower seed) Two robins that wait for peanut halves...

White Crowned Sparrow & goldfinch.
