I didn't rebuild the crossover, I just bypassed the electronic fuse/cct breaker, but yeah.... even when they're not completely foobarred, they seem to degrade slowly over time so it was a significant improvement when I bypassed them.

Most folks on the forums with skin in the game seem to recommend rebuilding the crossovers.

I don't have any skin in the game, but if you replace any old electrolytics in the crossover with good quality new ones (bipolar), or better yet polyprops, you will most likely be happy.

Edit: I should add that I was assuming you meant folks "in the business" and I know I should never ASSuME.

HTPC Update

Finally got the big boys down. Not without some bruises though. Nasty things to move.

Sound wise I like the SDA 1B better but that's because these SRS need more room and listening distance. Standing back behind the sofa about another ten feet they sound much better. Twelve feet is too close for these.

My lord those are beasts!!!!

They are. Sensitivity is rated a 93 db unmodded and can take 1000 watts. Right now when watching a movie the McIntosh shows only 1.2 watts being used. I opened up the taps on the McIntosh MC2125 I scored with them in the picture and was surprised how loud and distortion free they could go. New Orlean's is sinking by the Hip was rattling things with the subwoofer off, only in two channel and in pure direct mode.

The range of the SDA line of speakers from low volume to disturb the neighbors loud is as surprising as the McIntosh amps.

I'm moving away from an overkill setup into something much more pedestrian. Doesn't compare to ZaP's overkill :haha:
