Post Your Pets

One of my cats has been over grooming his belly and more recently not peeing in litter box. He went on some NSAIDS for a while and expensive af food. But still having trouble getting him back to using litter boxes.

So I tried clay litter again for first time in almost 3 years. I hate it. It's hard to clean, so messy, dusty, smells like cheap perfume, and you use about 4x as much. But it's clear the cats prefer it as the use it 10x much.

So I had an epiphany, or so I hope. Using the strong small totes from PA. I had drilled hundreds of holes in one to use to sift the pellets. Threw down some fine steel mesh screen. Then in the container below, fill with pellets.

If my plan works, liquids will drain through to bottom pellets. Then pellets will break down instead of the clay clumping. Thus being much easier to clean and not using near as much clay. Really hope my genius works out. 🤓

EDIT: does seem like my genius in fact does not work. :(
It was worth a shot...

We are currently using the "lightweight" litter from walmart (special kitty brand I think). Not using it for anything to do with it being lightweight, but it just seems to clump/hold better, which means we can go a lot longer between full dumps of all the litter pan. Doesn't stink/break apart/dust like the others we have tried.

Eh lowfat, the wife saw me reading your post and said, if you have more than one cat, when dealing with males, sometimes it helps to have more than one litter box in the house or on another floor of your house if you don't already. hope he's ok 😁

our cats have transitioned to wood pellets. it took some time as some of them would poop outside the litter box, but after a bit, that stopped. hell of a lot cheaper! $7.00 for a 40lb bag I think. we bought some fine garden sieve's and that's what the wife uses to sift out the sawdust. works well!

wow that cats have you trained well hehe
I wished that I could afford pets I like cats dogs and birds but cats and dogs and birds to me need room I would have a cage for the bird have it open during the day but then have them trained to go into the cage at night also need to remember t o check for the crap on walls and floor when they fly around the cats would need a little room in my place to move around which my place is a small sold studio that get super hot in summer and then the dogs would need to have a place to blow off steam which a dog I probably could take to work there is a lot of room there but at home no place for them to be let off the leash so like I mentioned I couldn't afford them probably couldn't feed them properly and if they got sick wouldn't be able to afford the bills.
I miss my cat and the dogs I had long ago.

Big fan of the auto litter boxes. Although one of my cats is not. He can either use them or go back to the pellets.

Took the problem cat to the vet again today as the food / meds didn't help. He had been spraying outside the litter box still. Got blood work and another pee test. He seems to be healthy. So it looks to be stress related or just behavioural. Going to be trying a 2 month trial of an anti depressant. Really hoping it works. If not, I'll just have to deal with cleaning up pee for now on.

Meds are $75/month. But TBH that is much cheaper than the food and Feliway I've been trying.

we have a cat that has a peeing issue. it's not marking, it's just peeing, so a behavioral issue. your trying an ad out just made me think we should try that out too.

Well it has been 1.5 days and the change is unreal. Like a night and day difference. Ever since adoption, he would run around the house crying and occasionally sounding like a demon possessed cat. NEEDED to be played with many times a day. Always up at least 4-5 hours longer a day than his brother. Started fights with brother.

He hasn't done any of the above since. He is sleeping more. About what I think a cat normally should. I sort of feel bad as he doesn't seem like the same cat. But he does seem more content.
