Honestly sip the strip and go to a UPS if for your desktop.

$199 in store, note pure sine wav model but still high VA model.
hehe I bought a UPS a years back https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01HDC236Q?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_9
then one night when I got home from work at 0100 I went to bed and the things started beeping, and I couldn't stop it from beeping the UPS was only 4 months old I up plugged the thing it still beeped and of course me being very tired and half asleep not being able to figure out how to turn off the beeping I rapped it up in a bunch of towels put it into the bathroom so I couldn't hear it as much went back to sleep , I have no clue when it was doing that and well I haven't used on since

Beep for different reasons, power loss, charigng failure, overload etc. Press and hold power button to shut them down. The perk of buying them via costco is they appear to not be in the 90day limited costco warranty. Giving them I think 2 years IIRC for returning them. Replacing the batteries in most is pretty easy.

power strip or surge protector? they are different animals.

Well a surge protector with at least 6 plugs is a power strip with surge protection right?

yes...but they're called surge protectors to differentiate from a power strip, which is essentially a plug replicator.

Well, according to a friend that used to have an electronics repair business, "surge protectors" are VERY little more than a simple power strip, i.e. they advertise them as protection, but in reality they do next to nothing, because they will literally burn up and melt when there's a significant surge, rather than simply popping off and keeping equipment plugged into them safe. I've actually seen some of that stuff in his shop, where a large surge happened, and it went RIGHT through the so called "surge protector", and blew all the electronics that were plugged into that "protector".

Right? :D

Its been plugged in for 15 years or so. Its been pretty good. Had a few brownouts, power outages, surges, spikes, all good. But then again, so was everything else in the house, including the other computers that were not protected..
