Still trying to fully understand it. Thought the entire bottom of the socket was effectively sealed and would not allow anything to pass into it. clearly that assumption was wrong. Whats interesting is it seemingly worked it's way upwards... Gravity defying conformal!
Gets somewhat worse, the memory stick closest to the socket is also stuck. I'm not attempting to remove it. Memory socket getting stuck is even harder to understand really. If I ever do this again... well FAR more precautions will be done.
SO... now that i've cheated death of board and processor....snip...
Apologies chibi_man. In my previous post I was assuming (which I should never do) that you were conflating conformal coating with the eraser coating. In subsequent posts, I realized that you sprayed conformal first and then applied the eraser. It all made sense then as it was so unlikely that something weird happened with the eraser application. Stronger spectacles and zooming in helped too.
Conformal coating has great ability to wick into places you don't want it to and very judicious masking is necessary.
For my purposes, I just build a moat of eraser putty around the CPU socket and use toweling and airflow to deal with the moisture. This certainly influenced my interpretation of your post, ie. jumping to the wrong conclusion.....a definite Homer DOH!
I follow with interest and look forward to seeing bench load temps. Cheers!
