At the current time, I'd get a Xbox 360. I actually have one already, so maybe I'm biased...

X360 just seems to have a lot more games that are good. Sure, online play costs money, but I believe it also performs a lot better. At least XBOX Live vs PS2 was like that. I don't play online myself though, so I couldn't care much about comparing that.

Either console though, you should at least have a HDTV with 720p. On a normal standard TV, it just doesn't look as amazing. Didn't look much better than plain old XBOX to me. Once we got our 40" Sony 1080p LCD TV, then XBOX360 just looked amazing.

There's apparently a X360 price drop coming soon of $50 USD.

The only thing I believe PS3 has going for it is the Blu-Ray drive. But then again, if Blu-Ray looses the format war, then the console becomes pretty worthless as a movie playback device. For games, X360 probably has a ton more exclusive titles than PS3 does.

But yeah, PC FTW! I just use the X360 every now and then for those few games that aren't on PC that I want to play such as the soon to be GTA IV and Gears of War.

Oh, one more thing, I love the X360 controller. Actually have one for my PC too. I just prefer the design/layout of it over the PS3.

Until the damn xbox360 quits with the "red ring of death" and killing discs I will stay far far far away from that piece of junk and while the ps3 MAYBE more at least it hasn't failed yet.

Personally, my 360 hasn't experienced any issues. We got it at Christmas last year.

I think those issue occur more due to user abuse than actual console issues. Apparently the newer ones have been revised to prevent the RROD. Basically all 360s are faulty supposedly. The CPU heatsink retention bracket was designed wrong and comes loose once the console gets hot. The heatsink then looses contact with the CPU and results in it frying. I keep mine horizontal, just in case that's true. Gravity can do its part and semi-keep the heatsink to the CPU.

I've also modified the cabinet my 360 is in with dual 80mm fans behind it to exhaust out the hot air through the back of the cabinet. I actually modded the whole cabinet so all the component its it have dual 80mm fans behind them. I really didn't like how hot things were getting.

360 has a 3-year warranty now too I think. So I'm not all that worried.

How is a overheating cpu a user fault? The unit should be designed so that no matter where it is put it should work fine, this is a fault of MS not user.

Or how about the 360s drive problem where the cdrom just dies? Thats another common issue?

User error on when drive scratches the discs? I think not.

360 just has to many issues :censored:

once they figure out how to code for the PS3 it will get really really good. Right now there's no damn games for it. Apparently, PS3's CELL processors can fold better than any PC on the planet which should let you in on the potential of it. There are a couple games I'm waiting for Heavenly Sword's DEMO is fun so i'll prolly rent it then buy it, Lair looks like a kickass game. Resistance probably wouldn't be that bad if I could use my keyboard and mouse (console FPS just drive me nuts).

With the latest firmware though it's gettin' used a bit more. It can grab vid's/mp3's off a media server, up convert's DVD's to 720p/1080p. down convert's BLueRay to 720p (dunno why it kinda defeats the purpose). I just wish you could make a damn playlist with it's media files.

On a side note, the guy that said somethin' about "should have a 720p(HD) TV" I agree with you. A modern console with a SDTV (480i) is just wrong.

A 37" LCD is like around $1200 for a good one (good name 1080p e.g. Sharp), that's really not that bad for a cutting edge HDTV. Hell my brother in law just bought a 32(?) LCD elcheapo brand for like $600 or somethin'? He bought a 360 Elite a week prior.
