Rants etc.....

Somebody decided that Enaberif is now permanently leading a team. Must have been bribes!

I was going to suggest how he got the promotion, but the mods would have to edit that crap out.

Thanks.. been a hectic couple of months from moving into one position from a promotion into this position now.

Probably the only employee to go through 6 different position changes in the company.

You growing up or something? When did this happen?

Congrats! You LPs boss now?

I'm going in on thursday to discuss this, but my understanding so far is that on CC cards the user has no discretion and no ability to adjust the limits. If I could adjust the limits I'd be more than happy to set it to $1 max per day and call it a day.... :)

From what I've read (and it could very well be bullcrap but it has the ring of authenticity to it) one of the large CC companies did a study and found that folks with tap turned on tended to spend 30% more on their CC cards hence the strong desire on their part to not allow folks to opt out.

We'll see what I find out on thursday, but I've already scoped out where the antenna is on this card and it'll meet the paper punch if there's no way to turn it off or limit it.

Yep, so the bank confirmed today that they have no control over the tap system so both mine and my wife's cards met mr. drill press..... :)

Especially happy since my card(s) ended up being one of the ones where the best place to drill the hole just happens to be through the symbol for the tap feature. (I know... petty, but it's the small wins in life that are often the sweetest.... :) )

People are such Idiots I guess someone attempted to grab a gun from a Police officer in order to shoot trump, all of people are saying things like ya they should have let him shoot Trump, I don't Agree with anything I have heard or read about Trump and his politics but to say things like Should have let the Guy have the gun is just Insane , I mean for one Know one needs to be shot for saying there Beliefs and the guy was in public if he gets a gun allot of people probably would have been shot or even trampled from the panic of Gun fire. Gee, when you click on the names of the people saying shoot Trump they are almost all Canadian! Go figure!

PS: I bet they are all Liberal voters too.

Jesus. Does this work? My father called me up on an absolute tirade today over his visa not disabling 'tap' (hey man, sometimes you can't fight old school' and actually cancelled his visa AND debit over it, going back to pure cash.

I confirmed this evening that tap no longer works with that card. :)

edit: Pretty straight forward....

If I have it right NFC sets up an electrical field in a coil to power the chip / process. Unlike an antenna for receiving signals which can be a straight wire, in order for the coil to be able to generate the field it requires an unbroken cct / loop. Breaking that loop anywhere prevents the cct from generating any field at all (not just limits the power).

I haven't tested it yet, but the smart chip should be completely unaffected by the break in the NFC loop.

As far as your Father's "tirade" goes... this is obviously a generational thing akin to not wanting to be joined at the hip to a mobile device. It probably also has a lot to do with wanting (needing) to be in control of the tech I use, not the other way around.

I feel much the same way as he does, but in my case the card would have been thrown in a drawer and only pulled out for online transactions or travelling.

From my POV I can't understand why all them young whipper snippers aren't up in arms and a hell of a lot more concerned about their personal privacy and how much today's tech just automatically assumes it has a right to know everything about us.

Didn't any of you folks have to read George Orwell's 1984 in school????? ;)

Rant = Off

While that is funny, just set your Tap limit as low as allowable per day. RBC has us at....$40 Max.
So even if my card has something go south, its not nearly that much out of my pocket.

That being said, you are correct about the closed loop coil. Our Wash cards for the fleet cars work the same way, we had one that got cracked, and that broke the loop and prevented the NFC from working at all.
You just need to make a hole in the correct spot to break the loop.

For fucks sake, stop being so paranoid.
