Plastic tote / garbage bag depending on size and shove in some bounce sheets or baking soda and let sit for a few days and check on it.

GOt things from family members from smoking households and depending on the item that was sometimes enough.

don't use anything scented here due to our son-in-law's MCSS (multiple chemical sensitivity syndrome) so that's a no-go. we'll probably soak it in a high concentration mix of vinegar / water for a while. eucalyptus based cleaning agents do a wonderful job as well, but my wife dislikes that particular one while I do like it.

A client had a piece of software that was slow to start up because they did the same thing. Each module was 1 by 1. Some modules relied on others to load but some could be loaded in parallel. They actually refused to allow me to fix it properly because they were to afraid of breaking other things.

That whole piece of software was really poorly optimized... I managed to increase the FPS by about 4x with 2-3 days of dedicated effort (15fps to frame capped and solid at 60fps and free frame time between frames when capped so might have been closer to 90fps).

I could have gotten another 2x but they wouldn't let me touch their "optimizations" that were actually making things worse

I know. what I'm saying is that letting Windows manage it is a slow ass process. it loads them all in a single threaded manner, so one by one....but if I manually tell some of the start up apps to load before Windows gets there, the PC is ready to rock and roll sooner than if I leave it be.

that's annoying!
 
Recently the 'marketplace' icon was replaced with Reels or some crap on FB for me. Google on how to fix it.... Has to be done on the app. Shame I uninstalled it weeks ago. So guess I'm not fixing it.

Really hate how sites try to jam their apps down your throat.
