Can I run Debian on it, so I can get rid of my desktop?
You'd want to use Raspbian, which is based on Debian. There are a lot of different GUIs for Raspbian available. You can also run Ubuntu. Pretty sure those are your only choices currently until/if a uefi is created for the Pi.

You want to tell me that except high powered applications like Folding or 3D gaming I could use this little board here for browsing, youtube and media center activities ?
