Don't even have the KB yet, but I'm already considering replacing the switches (might try brown just for kicks). Is there a recommended replacement switch brand/model? (I'm afraid to google it as I suspect I'll fall down the KB modding rabbit hole....... :) ).

Maybe something pre-lubed like these Gateron G Pros?

or $33 on AE....

I much prefer browns over reds. The other switch I like is the MX Speed Silver, which was used in lots of Corsair keyboards.

Took the plunge and ordered the aliexpress gateron browns. Should be here by the end of the month and I should have a couple of weeks playing around with the RK reds as a comparison.

Let us know your thoughts. I am by no means well versed in switches, but I seem to prefer tactile overall (brown or equivalent)...I hate the noise of blues (its a no go for me) and prefer some form of feedback during the keystroke which you don't get from linears (reds).

Will do. I've been using some form of reds for as long as I've had a mechanical keyboard so it'll be interesting to see what I think of the browns.

I started out with reds and they just didn't feel different enough to me to justify the mechanical. I settled on browns for all my keyboards since.

Is this one of the Royal Kludge keyboards you listed in the Hot Deals thread? If yes, just curious why you didn't buy it with browns at the start if you wanted a change?

Yeah, it's one of the RK keyboards and I bought Reds just out of habit because that's what I know. OTOH, grabbing the browns was as much about trying my hand at swapping switches as it was about trying the browns. I also believe that the gaterons "might" be a more premium switch than the RK browns would have been.

Just realised I probably didn't phrase the initial question correctly.... I wasn't looking for switch type recommendations, but instead was looking for suggestions on brands. It's too late to change my choice of gaterons, but for future reference, is there anything I should have been looking at WRT brands and features? (The pro version gaterons all appear to be pre-lubricated which would seem to me to be a desirable feature).

I stick to Gateron or Cherry when selecting switches. Avoid Kailh, I find them sloppy. The RK's are most likely rebadged Kailh, that's what Royal Kludge used to use for their keyboards. Their browns on this work keyboard I'm typing on seem to wiggle or move laterally more than the Gateron & Cherry browns I have on keyboards at home.
