That's par for the course for workstations, it's not an Apple-specific thing.

Taking a look at Dell's T7600 workstation, upping to 32GB of 1600MHz memory is $720, adding a 256MB SSD is $1000, adding a 2TB HDD is $600, adding a second Quadro 5000 video card is $2165.



Well, they did update the Mac Pro, it's just a really weak update that still doesn't make it worth buying.

Well Dell is also behind Alienware, similarly overpriced.

Ironically, I don't find Alienware overpriced at all. Particularly on the notebook side of things.

The laptops aren't too bad but if you want to upgrade from the base model they charge you way more than parts and labour are worth $75 for 2gb of ram is a tad crazy and $225 for an extra 10gb is just rediculous. If I was installing RAM for $75 to do 1 stick I would be making a very good hourly wage especially if I don't have to take the laptop apart first.
