Without much fanfare, the RX 7600 XT has released with its 16GB of VRAM.

While I am fully on board with having enough VRAM on GPUs for their performance class/cost, this one feels like its more of an advertising point than anything else. By the time you get to a resolution/setting level where you exceed the original model's 8GB, the GPU core is running out of ability to push frames fast enough. So yes the faster clocked core gets your around 10% higher frame rates, but by the time the extra vram comes into play to really help things out, it doesn't matter because the FPS is low (despite the % improvement being higher). Per the chart below, the original 7600 and this bracket the RTX 4060 for performance level.

I doubt AMD or board partners make more off this than than the original due to the BOM of the extra VRAM. So really for the extra $ you get more VRAM (that you likely won't need for gaming at this performance class), ~10% higher FPS, and worse efficiency (because the GPU core is pushed harder out of its efficiency curve and the extra VRAM).

IMO not worth it unless grabbed at a discounted price, you have a specific favorite game that is not as GPU heavy but high VRAM use (mods?), or you just need the cheapest 16GB GPU you can get for non-gaming usage of some type.

There's no reason it should be slower than my 3060Ti 8GB. Sigh. Sure it's cheaper than when I got mine during the crypto / COVID time but come on.
