Sapphire HD 5870 2GB Toxic Edition Review Comment Thread

Did you mean that the Intel Core i7 920(ES) was overclocked to 4.0Ghz during the System power Consumption Test?
And the same goes for all the previous power consumption test?

I am guessing April 8th is North American availability but that could change considering shipping delays, etc. Realistically, I would say at the beginning of next week we should (hopefully) see some cards in the channel.

Good deal...I've seen the V2 go in and out of stock at the eggUS twice, it tough not to hit the buy now button.

do you have to flash the bios to overclock this card beyond 900/1200?

I heard only Asus and MSI have unlocked bios. But, since this is a vapor-x is flashing the bios a risk since it is not a reference design?

"Unlocked"? MSI Afterburner can OC any HD 5870 above 900Mhz in my experience.

I just wanted to know, is the processor overclocked during the power consumption test? That is all.

Yes. However, it has very little impact upon the numbers. It's usage stays under 5% in this test.

Quick note to people using MSI's Afterburner to OC with the latest drivers and Crossfire X. You had best disable ULPS or you may get freezing/locking when opening it.

ULPS shuts down your cards it perceives as idle. For me that would be 2/3. I've also found my system will lock at the Crysis menu screen with the latest drivers and ULPS active using Crossfire X. With it off, no problems. Enabling/disabling it is simple; change the value, and restart.

In addition if you're having trouble OCing with Afterburner make sure the following settings are enabled in your cfg.

[Settings]
UnlockVoltageControl = 1

[ATIADLHAL]
EnableUnofficialOverclocking = 1

Should be a cfg file in you MSI Afterburner folder. You can drag drop it to your desktop, edit it, then put it back on Vista. Vista often hates to let you edit files while they are still in your program folder.
