I bought one Seagate Skyhawk HDD, the 1TB version, given that now i record more video shows, and i download larger files. I was also intrigued by the statement of a user that 7200rpm drives have more spin up time than the 5900 rpm ones. That would be true if the 7200rpm drives park their heads but i don't think that behavior is enforced anymore, or is it? Like all the Seagate drives I had before this drive is whisper quiet, HDTune says max read speed is 166 MB/s and average 135 MB/s. I would believe the writing speeds are similar. https://photos.app.goo.gl/GkzxYdnwsjeBUFfJ2

technically it is correct that a motor will take longer to spin up to 7200 from 5900rpm - its just physics... but that really does not matter UNLESS latency is an issue as the increase spindle speed quickly makes up for in it better r/w speeds. IF latency is crticial factor... an SSD is the only sane option. For video recording it does not matter as you will not be maxing out ANY modern hdd's r/w abilities. Get whatever has the longest warranty in your price range. IMHO warranty is the number one benchmark for how well a part is built. Longer warranty usually means better factory testing to catch problems before they become YOUR problems. E.G. Its why I use TuF and other 'military grade' mobos in MY own rigs.

I have a 1TB WD Purple myself that gets hit with 2x 1080p security cameras recording non-stop to it, plus another camera recording on motion triggers. Coming up on the 1yr mark now, so far so good :thumb:

I think most drives park their heads when not being accessed though. And depending on your Windows power settings, even turn off completely.

I backed up my C drive which is a raid 0 matrix to the Skyhawk and it showed average writing speed of 154 MB/s, which for a 5900 rpm drive is more than acceptable. Firmware is CV11. Seems to be a keeper.
